The Cat's Standard

The Cat's Standard is raw cat food built from the cat outward. Not from a recipe, not from a trend, and not from whatever protein is cheapest to buy in bulk this quarter. It starts with what an obligate carnivore is built to eat, then works backwards to the bowl.

What a cat is built for

A cat's digestive tract is short, acidic and fast. Stomach pH sits near 1 to 2. There is almost no amylase in the saliva. The whole system is designed to break down animal tissue and very little else.

That design has consequences. Cats cannot make taurine in useful quantities. They cannot convert beta carotene into vitamin A. They cannot build arachidonic acid from plant oils. Each of those gaps closes with animal tissue and closes with nothing else.

What goes into the formula

Muscle meat is the base. Organ meat carries the vitamin A, the B vitamins, the copper and the iron. Bone supplies calcium and phosphorus in a ratio the body can actually absorb. Connective tissue brings collagen and glycine. Every part does a job no other part can do, which is why a formula built on muscle meat alone will always need synthetic patching.

Safety is a process, not a promise

FDA testing found Salmonella or Listeria in 38 of 196 commercial raw pet foods. Freezing kills neither one. It pauses them. A raw food is only as safe as its validated kill step, and most brands on the market do not have one.

Sourcing is not a kill step. Cold chain is not a kill step. A kill step is a process with a measured log reduction behind it, and a batch record you can ask to see.

The formulas

Two formulas are in development.

Adult Maintenance. Built for the healthy adult cat at a stable weight. Protein and fat set for maintenance rather than growth, with the full organ and bone fraction included rather than replaced by supplements.

All Life Stages. Built to the higher requirement, so it covers kittens, pregnant and nursing queens, and adults in one formula. Higher protein, higher fat, and calcium and phosphorus set for skeletal growth.

Neither is on sale yet. Pricing, pack sizes and the kill step documentation will be published here before launch.

Who is behind it

Bangkok Cats is a world championship cattery with 30 Grand Champions and 7 National Winners. Pau is an animal biologist. Sun is the primary breeder and runs daily care. Between them they have spent over a decade feeding raw to a cattery where the results are judged in public, by strangers, against a written standard.

The championship record is not the argument. The biology is. The record is just the reason to believe the biology has been tested on real cats for a long time.
